I came home the the other day. I had a small "no see'em" metal sliver in my index finger. If I rubbed my finger one way. I couldn’t feel it. If I rubbed it another way it would hurt like the dickens. After a couple of failed attempts. I finally found the spot. Then had to find a way to extract the little bugger out. I did get out.
It's funny how something so small can cause that amount of pain. I am sure we all at one time have had a sliver or two. God has given us small things in life and we call them blessing or trials. Small seemingly unrelated things in our lives come up. Like the sliver, when rubbed one way we don’t notice it at first. It's not until we try a different route that we feel the pain.
In Ether 12:4 it says this about hope, “Whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God”.
This is found if you look up HOPE in the Gospel Topics on your LDS tools app. Hope is the confident expectation of and longing for the promised blessings of righteousness.
I am always as many of you are, hopeful in having a good day. As I was reading about the word hope, I feel it’s a more powerful meaning then just hoping for something. Hope is the small sliver in our lives. That is a righteous and a good and powerful thing if we rely on it with our daily scriptures, prayer, pondering and fasting. God gives us the ability to see past all the darkness, the Gloom and doom of life that Satan wants us to see. He gives us that love so that we can in return give that Hope to someone that needs it. The love we all want to share and have, that feeling that its all right in the world in our and our families lives. How amazing is it that one small thing can get us going and happy and full of joy.
Brothers and Sisters, I pray that you find small slivers of Hope in your life and the blessings that you will receive from it and that you will pass it on to others to brighten and strengthen those around you. This is my testimony, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
