When we love someone, we like to share our special things with them. Sometimes we share our toys, games, bike, or treats. Sometimes we share our feelings or special stories about our life. One thing we can share with others is the gospel! Helping others understand that Jesus and our Heavenly Father loves us is a great gift to give to those we care about. And even when we share the gospel with people we don’t even know, it helps us to learn to love others—like Jesus would have us do.
We are never too young to share the gospel with others. Most of the time, sharing the gospel is as simple as making good choices and living the way Jesus has shown us. Here is one of my special stories I want to share with you, because I love you:
Several years ago we had a group of Amish friends at our home for a week. Amish are people of a different religion. They are good people, but do things very different than we do. One evening we were getting ready for dinner. As we sat down to eat, my granddaughter, Cora, blurted out, “I want to say the prayer!” Of course, we said that was fine and she said a lovely little prayer in front of all those people she didn’t even know very well. She was only about 5 years old at the time. What she didn’t know was that Amish people almost never pray out loud outside of church (they say a prayer in their heart when in a public setting), and when they do pray as a family it is always the dad who does it. They had never seen a child pray before! They were very touched by the sincere and simple prayer of a child, and also by her eagerness to volunteer. I was very proud of her courage and willingness to do what she had been taught, even when around people she didn’t know.
If we truly want to share the gospel with others, Heavenly Father will help us be brave. We need to study the scriptures and learn about the gospel, but we must also remember to trust Him and let the Holy Ghost guide us.
