We will make it through by His Love and continual watchful care

Crissy Jackson

Relief Society Secretary

I keep this quote by President George Q. Cannon taped to my desk at work. And now more than ever do I feel the prevalence and power in his words.

“No matter how serious the trial, how deep the distress, how great the affliction, [God] will never desert us. He never has, and He never will. He cannot do it. It is not His character [to do so]. He is an unchangeable being; the same yesterday, the same today, and He will be the same throughout the eternal ages to come. We have found that God. We have made Him our friend, by obeying His Gospel; and He will stand by us. We may pass through the fiery furnace; we may pass through deep waters; but we shall not be consumed nor overwhelmed. We shall emerge from all these trials and difficulties the better and purer for them, if we only trust in our God and keep His commandments” (“Freedom of the Saints,” in Collected Discourses, comp. Brian H. Stuy, 5 vols. [1987–92], 2:185; emphasis added).

We all go through, have gone through, and of course right now are going through some very challenging times. What I love is the strong testimony that this quote bears in just a few sentences of the true nature of our Heavenly Father. Even though there are so many storms going on....we can have such peace and assurance that we are known. We are loved. And we will be okay. Why? Because Heavenly Father, our God, our Creator promised us just that.

In today's world, someone’s promise may not mean much and can leave us un-trusting and maybe a little jaded at the world. But what I LOVE about this gospel which is in this quote...Heavenly Father NEVER breaks His promises. Not only can he not break the promises he made, He flat out Won't because he loves us just that much. Do we have to do our part? yeah. But even our minimal efforts are still rewarded greatly and we can always find peace in His loving arms no matter the circumstances we find ourselves. And that is something we can hold to and trust in. With all the uncertainty around us, of one this we can be sure, We have a kind and Loving Heavenly Father that will always be there to see us through (sometimes carrying us) but we will make it through by His Love and continual watchful care.
