Dear Brothers and Sisters, like for many of you, this is my favorite time of the year. I love the decorations that remind me daily that we are celebrating the birth of our Savior, JESUS CHRIST. Think about all the relationships that you treasure in your life. Think about your unconditional love for your family. Think about that special friend that you love like family. What do these special people have in common in your life? Also, ponder how well you know these people? To answer the first question, we develop a deep love and appreciation to those who are kind and express unconditional love for us. For most of us, our parents and spouses fit perfectly the description of someone who loves and cares for us--at times even sacrificing much to show us that love. When we feel loved by others, it is easy for us to love them in return. Love is contagious, and in our world, stake, wards, and families, we need a pandemic of such love right now. Now to answer the second question, we love those we know. People that are close to us are the people we know best, and therefore, we love them deeper. This type of love and affection isn’t unique to people only. All you need to do is to think about how well you know your favorite restaurant, book, movie, or sports team. During the intercessory prayer, Jesus taught us that Eternal Life is to know God and Him, as the only Begotten of the Father (John 17:3). When we know our Father in Heaven and our Savior, we come to develop a deeper relationship with them. We are more aware of their will for each of us in our lives, and we are more inclined to accept their will for each of us. If we want to increase our obedience to our Father in Heaven, and open our hearts and homes to the blessings that are promised to us, we must get to know our Father in Heaven and Savior. As we increase our knowledge of them and all that they have done for us, our behavior will naturally be changed and aligned with the will and character of God and Jesus Christ. So for this month, I would like to give you a challenge that will help you get to know your Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. Say a daily prayer as if you were speaking with your earthly parents or best friend. Be open and true about your feelings, and ask Him to be a part of your life. Then wait and listen-don't rush out to the next thing. Get to know the Savior a little better by reading about Him. Between now and December 25th, read about the visit of our Savior to the Americas and write down what you have learned about our Savior. Start on 3 Nephi 11 and end on 3 Nephi 28. Show your love for the Savior by doing a kind deed for someone. Dear Brothers and Sisters, if you complete this simple challenge, you will increase your knowledge of your Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ, and with this knowledge, there will also come a greater love for Them. This increase in love, will bless you and your family to more thoroughly appreciate Them in your life, and this appreciation will increase the joy you feel. I leave this promise with you. The Spirit of Christ will brighten the walls of your home, and you and family will be better prepared to face all of life’s challenges. We love you dear Brothers and Sisters! Have a wonderful Christmas Season! President Emerson Carnavale
