BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC, Hymn 60

Who can resist the spiritual call to arms of this famous hymn? Its history ties it closely to the American Civil War, but it's message is in the spirit of Psalm 20:7: "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord Our God". Its words link patriotic heroism with the heroism of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. With the publication of the 1985 latter Day Saint hymnbook, this hymn, which points toward a jubilant millennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ, again became a part of Latter-day Saint hymnody. It had earlier appeared in Latter-day saints sources but was not included in the 1950 hymnal. This hymn was written by Julia Ward Howe, see the video below.
