Greetings from the Stake Sunday School

Many of you are following the Come Follow Me guidelines for your weekly study.  We hear references to the weekly study in some of your talks in Sacrament meetings and in other discussion.  This outline has been a blessing to our families.   President Nelson recently taught the importance of the Doctrine & Covenants (this year’s course of study) in the recent “New Mission Leader” training for new Mission Presidents & wives…….”Joseph received by revelation all but three of the 138 sections of the Doctrine and Covenants, often in the face of extreme adversity and persecution. “This sacred compilation of revelations from the Lord proclaims the doctrine; establishes the administrative structure of the Church; and explains the keys, authority and power of the priesthood in more detail than any other book of scripture.  It gives needed counsel and correction and powerfully testifies of the Lord Jesus Christ.”   What a powerful testimony of the Doctrine & Covenants.   There has been a recent update to the church handbook regarding another tool to help us as parents be better prepared to teach in our homes.  This is found in section 17. 4 “Teacher Council Meetings”: The ward council may organize teacher council meetings for parents to help them improve gospel teaching in the home. Like other teacher council meetings, these are held during the 50-minute class time on Sunday. The Sunday School general presidency recently suggested using the “Come, Follow Me” manual’s Introductory Materials — specifically the ideas for improving personal and family scripture study — for discussions in teacher council meetings for parents. In this week’s study (D&C 88-92), we learn about the Word of Wisdom.  We are also led to answer certain questions: What do we learn about the First Presidency (90:1-17), Oracles (90:5), the Apocrypha (91:1-2, Guide to the Scriptures, “Apocrypha”) and what does it mean to be a “lively member” of the church (92:2). Thank you for your efforts to improve your gospel knowledge and be better teachers of the gospel to your families and ward/branch members. As a Stake Sunday School Presidency, we testify that the testimonies of our families will continually be strengthened as we follow the Come Follow Me course of study. Darrell Whitney – Stake Sunday School President
