May 10 - Mother's Day
Every mother (and father and child for that matter) desires to have love in her home, to feel the joy in every sound; for what other aim is there that could possibly be more noble than a happy home filled with love? "Love at Home" is a hymn in praise of this blessing and reminds us that if our home succeeds, everything else in life is more beautiful and satisfying.
An early verse that is not part of the version in our hymnbook was published in 1866:
Jesus, show thy mercy mine
Then there's love at home;
Sweetly whisper, I am thine,
Then there's love at home
Source of love, thy cheering light
Far exceeds the sun so bright -
Can dispel the gloom of night;
Then there's love at home.
