The Wind that Pushes us Through

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Can you look back at a time in your life when you went through a difficult period or trial? Do you remember how you felt? If you can remember, you probably had feelings of sadness, anger, frustration, disappointment, and loneliness. Everyone one of us encounters difficulties in our lives-it is not a matter of “if” but “when” difficulties will come. In this life three things are sure to happen: death, taxes, and trials - which include the previous two things :). The year of 2020 has been nothing short of a trying year. From natural disasters, to a pandemic, to a heated political environment, we got it all in 2020. But we have also learned and grown so much through this period. Here are few lessons that I learned through 2020:

  • Our Heavenly Father is always in control

  • I have learned to trust our Savior with even greater faith

  • I have learned to cherish the small and simple things

  • I have learned that I can decide how I act in the face of challenges, and that a good attitude always make challenges more bearable

  • I have realized how much I really love my stake and ward families

These are some of the lessons I can remember. What lessons have you learned during this time? What have you discovered about yourselves and those closest to you? When the Jaredites took on their journey to the promise land, they had no way to guide their barges (at least that we know of), they had no compass, which would have been of little use to them since they didn’t know where they were going. So the Lord caused a “furious wind” to blow the barges towards the promised land. Throughout their journey, the Jaredites’ barges were “buried in the depths of the sea because of the mountain waves...caused by the fierceness of the wind.” Thus we see that the same wind that pushed the Jaredites towards the promised land, was also the wind that caused waves to bury their barges. Without the wind, the Jaredites would have wandered at sea forever. Brothers and Sisters, much like the Jaredites, we have fierce winds throughout our lives, and these winds come in the form of trials and challenges. They can be scary and soul crushing at times, but with an eternal perspective, these trials and challenges can be more like the “furious wind” that the Lord is sending us to guide us to the promise land. We love you dear family! Washington Stake Presidency President Emerson Carnavale
